What the system does
Renewing the surface of a worn shaft instead of replacing it cuts both cost and lead time. But conventional build-up methods put in too much heat and distort the part.
Laser cladding works at low heat input: a 6,000 W continuous-wave laser and a COAX-8 nozzle with a focus adjustable between 2.28 and 7.32 mm deposit a controlled clad layer on the surface.
Shaft-type parts are rotated safely on a dual-axis positioner with a 5-tonne hydraulic tailstock and support, carrying workpieces up to 8 tonnes. A CMOS camera integrated into the optics monitors the process live.
